When the studio is the better call
A studio shines when conditions have to be predictable and repeatable. Campaigns, lookbooks, portraits, product and fashion shoots all depend on light, background and floor space landing every time. You build your setup once and reproduce it as often as the brief demands, with no weather or borrowed location in the way and full control over look and schedule.
The biggest lever is the included equipment. Before booking, check whether a flash kit, continuous light, cyclorama, background systems and stands are included or need to be added, and whether there is a separate area for make-up, styling and clients. The more is on site, the less you transport, rent and build, which often saves more on the shoot day than the raw price difference between two studios.
Plan your shoot day from the first delivery to the strike. A full shoot day with make-up, several looks and clients on site needs buffers for set-up, strike and look changes, so budget it generously to keep the schedule. Also ask about ground-level access, freight lift, loading zone, parking and power points so gear, crew and catering get into the studio without friction.
